Frequently Asked Questions
What style of boat should you choose?
Catamarans are the best value vessels for groups of 10 to 40 people, with plenty of outdoor space and swimming ladders so they are awesome Summer boats. In the colder months they have plastic fold-downs walls incase it gets chilly, and they have sheltered cabins too. Most catamarans require you to bring your own beverages as they don’t have bars onboard. Most have BBQ’s and kitchens with food packages available. You can also bring your own catering.
Cruisers are versatile boats with indoor and outdoor areas for year-round experiences. Some have dancefloors and licensed bars onboard. They range in size for groups of 30 to 100 people and offer great value. Cruisers are fantastic all-round party boats!
Yachts are sleek and sexy vessels that take cruising comfort to the next level. They have everything that cruisers have however they are generally more intimate as they have more furniture for a more relaxed experience, so they don’t all have dance floors. They are also the priciest option, ideal for people seeking a little luxury! Who doesn’t want a luxurious yacht party right?
Large Function Boats are ideal for large groups with everything you need – plenty of space for entertainment and dancing, furniture for comfort, along with large bars and kitchens for fully-catered events. Ideal for big Birthday cruises and Corporate events.

What are the wharf locations?
King St Wharf is the most popular destination for pick-ups and drop-offs because it is in the central CBD so it’s easy for guests to get to.
Other popular locations include the Sydney Aquarium Wharf, Towns Place Wharf at Walsh Bay/Millers Point, Barangaroo Wharf, Star Casino Wharf, Pirrama Park Pyrmont, Woolloomooloo Wharf, Yarranabbe Park Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay Wharf, Rose Bay Wharf and Lavender Bay Wharf.
Some boats can travel to Commissioners Steps Circular Quay, Eastern Pontoon Circular Quay, Campbell’s Cove The Rocks, Mosman Bay Wharf and Manly Wharf.
We’ve made it easy for you to see which wharfs each boat can access, by listing all your options in the ‘availability’ section of the boat profiles.
You can also find a full list of Wharf Locations here but please enquire about availability for your particular boat.
What are the catering options?
Each boat has its own catering menu. Most boats also give you the option to bring your food and beverages if you prefer.
There are generally 3 types of food menus: (1) BBQ Menu, (2) Canape/Platter Menu and (3) Buffet/Banquet Menu. Check out the boat profiles for the detailed menu options available on each vessel.
Some boats have alcohol licenses so they can provide beverage packages also.
You can search for a boat using our filtering options depending on whether you want a food and beverage package or BYO.
We even list the option to search for boats that provide ice and cutlery for you if you decide to BYO.
We provide as much detail as possible to make your boat party planning as easy as it can be.
You can see our event catering page for a description of what each option means.
What facilities do the boats have?
Catamarans typically have swimming platforms, cruisers have dance floors and yachts usually have air conditioning.
You can search for facilities such as these and more above, and check out the boat profiles for a list of facilities included on each boat.
All boats have sound systems onboard and the ability for you to play your own music playlists.
You can also see our facilities page for a description of what each option means.
What are the entertainment options?
Get Loose is a specialist in entertainment, so we deliver all-inclusive experiences. You can book everything in one place with us.
For Birthdays our DJ Hire and Live Entertainers such as Bongo Drummers, Saxophonists and Guitarists are popular.
For Bucks and Gents Parties our Topless Waitresses and Female Strippers are a must.
For Hens and Ladies Parties our Topless Waiters, Male Strippers and Drag Queens are a hit.
For Corporate Christmas Parties, Laser Clay Shooting is a popular team building activity.
On large function boats there is space for Brazilian Dance Shows, Burlesque Dance Shows, Belly Dancers and Photobooths.
If you want any Live Music not listed on our website (such as a Live Band), or even an MC, feel free to request a custom quote.
We can also arrange Photographers.
Many boats also have Water Activities such as Floating Water Mats (Lilypads), Stand-up Paddleboards and Inflatable Water Toys.
Are there any popular boat party themes?
Ahoy there, party enthusiasts! If you’re dreaming of a party that’s afloat with fun and adventure, a harbour cruise isn’t just about floating on water; it’s about creating an unforgettable experience. And what better way to do that than with a theme? From tropical luau to pirate plunder, let your imagination run as wild as the open sea. Encourage your crew to dress the part and prepare for a swashbuckling adventure or a beachy blast! Here are some popular themes to inspire you:
Pirates: Aye Aye, Captain. Unleash your inner Captain Jack Sparrow and encourage your guests to come dressed as swashbucklers, complete with eye patches, tricorn hats, and pirate accents. Search for buried treasure, and have a “walk the plank” content for added fun.
Nautical: Keep it classic with a nautical theme. Think navy and white stripes, anchor décor, and sailor hats. Encourage your guests to dress in sailor attire and serve up some fresh seafood platters.
Retro: Embrace the occasion Beach Boys style with a 50s inspired boat party. Decorate with beach balls, boogie boards, and bright colours. Encourage your guests to wear retro swimwear and play beach games like bingo and volleyball.
Tropical: Set a tropical vibe on deck with leis, tiki torches, and ukulele music. Guests can wear Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, and flower crowns. Serve up fruity cocktails, fresh seafood, and have a hula dancing contest.
How long is the cruise and what are the times?
Most boats have a 4 hour cruise duration particularly in the peak season i.e. Summer, and the time is generally 12.00pm/1.00pm to 4.00pm-5.00pm or 5.00pm-6.00pm to 9.00pm/10.00pm.
Some boats allow for 3 hour cruises, especially in non-peak season i.e. Winter.
5 hour cruises are rare and subject to availability. They are however popular on special occasions like the Australia Day and Boxing Day public holidays and the Harbourlife Festival. On New Years Eve the charters are 6 hours duration but pricing is on request – quite pricey!
Check out our boat profiles as we have listed as much information about duration, timing and pricing as you can possibly find.
Where does the boat go during the charter?
Sydney Harbour offers abundant sightseeing opportunities due to its impressive size. You can expect to explore essential vantage points, stretching from Darling Harbour, Luna Park, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Taronga Zoo and the Royal Botanical Gardens in the CBD, all the way to Watsons Bay at the ocean’s entrance via the Eastern Suburbs or the North Shore, ensuring a complete Sydney Harbour experience.
Additionally, the experienced captain/skipper will adjust the route as needed to accommodate weather conditions.
You can also anchor at well-known harbour beaches for a swim in the crystal clear waters of Seven Shillings Beach, Neilsen Park and Camp Cove in the East, or Athol Bay, Clontarf Beach, Chinaman’s Beach and Balmoral Beach in the North.
Some landmark islands you may pass include Cockatoo Island, Garden Island, Fort Denison, Goat Island and Shark Island.
What happens if it rains?
In the case of any wet weather the charter will still proceed. If the water is choppy the skipper will simply avoid deep waters. You can check the weather forecast here. Only if the skipper deems the water too dangerous will the cruise be rescheduled. Thankfully this is super rare.
What can we wear on the boat?
Catamarans and yachts will typically ask you to take your shoes off onboard, or wear white non-marking shoes. This is because the surfaces on the boats are quite delicate fiberglass or polished timber. High heels are also not welcome due to the rocking movement of these vessels especially in unpredictable weather. Wedge shoes are generally ok where shoes are permitted.
Cruisers are sturdier party boats so no rules usually apply.
We’ve put together some inspiration for you to read here.
Is there an age restriction on the boats?
We do not organise 18th birthday parties.
If any guests under the age of 18 are in attendance they each require an adult guardian and the consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
Can we drop off our catering or decorate before the cruise?
Some boats give you the option to set-up before a charter if it is available. Please refer to the ‘pre-loading’ section of the boat profiles to see your options on locations and pricing if applicable.
What time do we have to arrive at the wharf?
The boat will arrive at the time scheduled. We only ask you to arrive 10 minutes early incase your guests are late as they work to a tight wharf booking schedule, quite like an airport!
How do we get to the wharf?
If you are boarding in the Sydney CBD then it is recommended you ask guests to make their own way using public transport. There is some parking available if you don’t plan to drink. You can see your best ways of getting there here.
If you are boarding at a wharf outside the CBD, or whether you just want the convenience and fun of a Party Shuttle Bus or Stretch Hummer, we can organise that for you too!
Where can we go after the cruise?
There are plenty of bars along King St Wharf such as Cargo Bar and Bungalow 8 where you can either start your day before the cruise or end your night for an after-party. Get Loose has a network of bars and clubs that we work with around town. Check our our Nightclubs and Gentlemen’s Club options.
How do we book a boat?
There are several things to have fixed in your mind before choosing the most appropriate party boat hire in Sydney, namely:
- Preferred dates
- Your overall budget
- The number of guests
- Activities and entertainment
- Catering
When you’re ready to book we’ll send you a booking confirmation and once you’ve paid a deposit the boat is all yours! You don’t have to pay the balance until the week before the event, which gives you time to confirm the number of guests attending and make any changes to your package. We’ll send you an itinerary the week of your cruise with a summary of your booking, pick-up location and contact details of your skipper. On the day of your charter please arrive 10 minutes early for pick-up, then relax and take in the views of Sydney Harbour from Cockle Bay all the way to Watsons Bay and everywhere inbetween. We look forward getting you onboard one of our Sydney party boats soon!
